Galwad Tîm - Dyfed Powys Police received a call from a group in off road vehicles who had become stuck. Two off road vehicles with 5 occupants became stuck in boggy ground on an 'off road' byway at Nant Ystalwyn, Abergwesyn at grid SN 8101 6016. The occupants phoned for mountain rescue assistance while reporting that they were safe and well. Brecon MRT was deployed with the intention of evacuating the vehicle occupants to safety rather than providing a vehicle recovery service. Despite several phone calls and text messages from the MR Coordinator contact with the vehicle occupants wasn't possible due to poor signal in the area. On arrival on scene MR personnel offered to evacuate the vehicle occupants to a local town for their safety, but the offer was refused as the vehicle occupants were concerned their vehicles would be stolen from the isolated location while also being stuck in boggy ground. BMRT's Landrover (ZW) couldn't get close to the site where the vehicles were stuck, so was unable to attempt to winch the stuck vehicles out of the boggy ground. As the vehicle occupants were safe and well and had refused assistance, MR personnel left the scene and returned to base leaving the vehicle occupants to spend the night in their vehicles. Police Control was informed of the situation by the team Coordinator.
