Lleolwyd Cerddwyr Coll - Dyfed Powys Police alerted the team to a missing male from a family group. A family group consisting of a mother, father, and two adult sons was ascending Pen y Fan. During the descent, the father chose to make his own way down separately. He subsequently became lost and was later found to have gone off-path, descending via Cefn Cwm Llwch. Initial information regarding the father's location was not available. Details of the situation were provided to police by the wife and sons. Initial contact was made with the missing person, who was unable to adjust phone settings to enable PhoneFind. He was unable to provide his location and did not know where his car was parked or which car park it was in. A video call was initiated to assist with situational awareness. During the call, Llangorse Lake was visible in the background, suggesting the misper was on the north side of the Brecon Beacons. He was guided to send his location via WhatsApp, which successfully transmitted coordinates. The location was identified as Cefn Cwm Llwch. The misper was instructed to head toward Pen y Fan where MR personnel would meet him. A passer-by encountered him near PyF and accompanied him to Bwlch Duwynt. Mountain Rescue Team personnel met him there and escorted him off the hill to PAD. Meanwhile, the rest of the family had walked to their car at Cwm Gwdi but had no keys. All three family members were safe and accounted for. A party, was sent to meet and keep them warm while the father was being retrieved. Central Beacons MRT was initially called to search the Neuadd area but stood down once the correct location was identified. The misper had difficulty using his phone due to not wearing his usual glasses, which limited his ability to operate location services such as PhoneFind. However, WhatsApp location sharing proved effective in resolving the situation. Tried talking him through settings of location services etc but this was not easy on the hill with him and poor vision.
