This
annual 20 mile mountain walk over the hills surrounding
Tal-y-bont on Usk normally takes place in October each year.
The route goes clockwise one year and anti-clockwise the following
year, and takes in the summit of Tor-y-Foel, Chartists Cave
on Mynydd Llangorse, Trefil Quarries, the summit of Pant y
Creigiau, the roadside at Torpantau, up onto Craig y Fan Ddu,
the summit of Carn Pica and back down to Tal-y-bont. The views
over the Tal-y-bont Reservoir and the forestry, right across
the whole of the Beacons and the Black Mountains are stunning
on a fine day, but beware! If the weather is poor you need
to know how to use a map and compass, especially if you are
looking for Chartist Cave!
There
is also a shorter walk of ten miles, which follows
the canal out of Tal-y-bont and around the village, taking
in the Taff Trail.
