Mountain
Rescue services are free to those in need because the
teams are staffed by volunteers, who expect nothing more than
a thank you. However, equipment, vehicles and maintaining a
headquarters all cost money so those very same volunteers have
to raise sufficient funds to maintain the service.
Fundraising
is an art form, and our team's activities are co-ordinated
by Katie Garnett who has the difficult job of matching our team's
requirements with income! It cost approximately £16,000
per annum to run the team, as the spending breakdown shows.
The fundraising schemes are becoming more novel, as this picture
shows where we are setting practical outdoor challenges for
a GPs' training course.
