Mountain
Rescue services are free to those in need because the
teams are staffed by volunteers, who expect nothing more than
a thank you. However, equipment, vehicles and maintaining a
headquarters all cost money so those very same volunteers have
to raise sufficient funds to maintain the service.
The 200 Club also contributes to team fund-raising by way of a monthly contribution to a prize fund with quarterly draws. See http://200club.breconmrt.co.uk/ for full information.
Fundraising
is an art form, and our team's activities are co-ordinated
by Kevin Harding who has the difficult job of matching our team's
requirements with income! It cost approximately £20,000 per annum to run the team.
The fundraising schemes are becoming more novel, as this picture
shows where we are setting practical outdoor challenges for
a GPs' training course.
